Welcome to the Spiral Up Parenting space.
The Spiral Up concept is really about making a choice. We don’t always get to choose what happens in our life, but we can choose how we react to it.
Teaching our kids they can choose positivity over the negative, kindness over criticism, inclusivity and acceptance over judgement, and even more “being” over endlessly doing, helps empower them to start creating their best life.
At Spiral Up Parenting, our aim is to give kids simple tools to help them make conscious choices in how they deal with life‘s challenges, and coping strategies to build their resilience, confidence and joy.
Kim Ellisten, founder and creator of the Spiral Up concept, is a graphic designer, author, and mum to two, adult daughters.
For many years, she and her husband ran a busy graphic design studio in Melbourne, Australia. After starting a family and their kids began school, they found the need for explaining “how to deal with things” came to the fore. As parents, they were keen to encourage conversations with their girls about what was real and important.
So, Kim started drawing what they wanted to tell them.
She set about using her creative talents to help visually explain ways to deal with the issues they were experiencing. And it worked! Other parents liked the concept, so she decided to share her ideas in a book to hopefully start conversations and strengthen connections within families, building kids’ resilience along the way. The result was Spiral Up to Empower Resilient Kids, a “from one parent to another” type of parenting book that offers accessible, practical insights on how to talk to your kids about the issues they‘re experiencing.
Kim isn’t a qualified expert in this field – she’s a parent. And through taking a keen interest in psychological and spiritual development for over 30 years, she has a deep passion for bringing out the best in people, especially kids, and helping them to make positive, conscious choices in their lives to foster awareness, kindness, and growth.
In 2023, she established Spiral Up Parenting as a vehicle for helping bring the ideas and concepts within her book to families, caregivers, and educators of children.
We sincerely hope these ideas bring you and your loved ones closer through the open-hearted sharing of your journey together.
